Pistachios: weak start to the export season

SACRAMENTO. According to the latest data released by the Administrative Committee for Pistachios, shipments have decreased by 7.3% since last year. Performance is particularly low in Asia. Contrary to this, there has been an encouraging development in Germany.

Germany doubles imports

In September, a total of 16,357 metric tonnes of US pistachios were shipped, which is around 7.3% less than last year. While US shipments increased by 21% to 7,268 metric tonnes, overseas shipments declined by 22% to 9,089 metric tonnes. The decline in exports is primarily due to a decline in shipments to Asia. China (-78%, to 703 mt) and Hong Kong (-37%, to 1,675 mt) imported significantly less US pistachios than in September last year.
