MANISA. The dried fruit traders in Turkey have doubts that the export prices will be competitive if farmgate prices remain at TRY 10 per kg or higher.

Market demands lower prices

Type 9 standard sultanas are currently trading in a range of TRY 9.30-9.40 per kg. Much to the displeasure of the farmers, who often have no choice but to sell. Export prices ranging as high as USD 2,000 per metric tonne FOB right at the start of the season are viewed critically by the market. Problem is that this level cannot possibly be maintained in the international market. There are only two options to lowered prices back to more attractive levels. Eit
