Dried figs: buying is more subued

AYDIN. Turkey's dried fig exporters are busy completing shipments before Christmas. The TMO intends to become active. Global production figures are also not exactly encouraging.

Concerns over subdued demand

The final few export-strong weeks are underway before trading activities slow down in December. Market players state that demand will only trigger buying again at the end of January/beginning of February at the earliest. Fears also prevail that high prices and the coronavirus crisis will put off buyers.

Turkey has shipped 20,461 mt of dried figs and dried fig products overseas since the start of the season, down 1,238 mt or 6% on the same period last year. The main export destinations are Germany (-10% to 2,889 mt), the US (+37%

MANISA/REUS. Persistent rainfall has once again led to flooding along the banks of the Gediz river in Manisa. The TMO is releasing raw materials from the 2025 crop for sale. According to the INC, global production of dried vine fruits has fallen by 14%.
