Oilseeds update: freight charges continue to rise

FRANKFURT. Monitoring of the oilseed sector with day-to-day price comparisons.

Export demand has risen sharply in China, albeit not for pumpkin seeds. The trend has, nevertheless, driven up freight charges. Issue is that not as many ships are as yet available as in pre-pandemic times, which is prompting bottlenecks in loading and container availabilty. Freight charges have tripled within the last few months. Charges for shipments of 20' containers to Europe currently range at USD 3,400/mt and for 40' containers at USD 6,400/mt.
