Cashews: encouraging outlook

HANOI. Processors in Vietnam are determined to leave 2020 behind and are optimistic for this year. The UK-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (UKVTA) offers new opportunities, especially for cashew suppliers.

Satisfying export performance

Despite the setbacks caused by the pandemic, some agricultural and commodity sectors developed well in Vietnam. As much as 464,000 mt of cashews were exported between January and November 2020, up 12.2% in the same period in 2019. The export value, however, declined by 2.7% to USD 2.9bn. Average export prices ranged at USD 6,276/mt. The Vietnam Cashew Association (Vinacas) is highly satisfied with this development. Market players hope that prices will continue to stabilise.
