BEIJING. Many roasters are stocking up on Shine Skins in the run up to Chinese New Year, which will be celebrated on 12 February this year. Demand for GWS kernels is, by contrast, subdued. Freight charges have risen again and export prices are up.

Buyers not interested in GWS kernels

Shine Skin kernels continue to trade on a high level due to the preparations underway for the new year celebrations in China. Roasters are currently buying large volumes, which is driving up raw kernel prices. Market players, however, reckon that prices will decline again as soon as domestic demand subsides after the new year celebrations are over in February. GWS kernels are trading nominally higher. They are almost exclusively destined for the export market, but demand remains largely subdued in the US, Canada and Australia. AA
