Sunflower seeds: suppliers look for alternatives

SOFIA. The European Commission has again revised its production estimates. Suppliers in Bulgaria urgently require additional raw sunflower seeds.

High prices in Bulgaria

The lack of raw seeds is proving to be a great challenge for many traders in Bulgaria. Bakery kernels are currently trading at EUR 0.97/kg FCA Bulgaria for delivery in February and March. Suppliers cannot plan further ahead. For many it is already difficult to obtain raw seeds and they are looking for new raw seed suppliers. Trade relations with Russia are also difficult and the recent hike in export tariffs for Russian sunflower seeds from 6.5% to 30% is not exactly helping matters.
