Prunes: heavy rainfall endangers production

SANTIAGO. Heavy rainfall and its effects are causing prune exporters in Chile to exercise caution. Meanwhile, prune imports to Germany increased by 20% last year.

Rumours of massive losses

Along with the USA and France, Chile is one of the world's most important producers of prunes. However, this year's heavy rainfall is said to have had a negative impact on production; rumour has it that production could be up to 50% lower. Exact figures are not yet available, however.
