SACRAMENTO/SANTIAGO. Thanks to significant increases in production in countries such as China, Chile and the USA, the international market should be sufficiently supplied with walnuts. However, the pandemic causes some logistical delays and a shift in demand.

Europe cuts walnut imports by 5%

California Walnuts' latest export report reveals that US walnut shipments to domestic and foreign markets have increased 19% year-on-year since the start of the season. While total domestic shipments were only 1% higher than last season, exports to Asia were up 46% and to Africa 41%. Exports to Europe, meanwhile, declined by 5%. For example, shipments of in-shell walnuts to Germany (-13% to 19,443 mt) and Italy (-9% to 21,785 mt) decreased. Turkey, however, increased its imports by a whopping 25% to 46,265 mt.
