Pumpkin seeds: summer slump vs freight charges

BEIJING. Although demand for pumpkin kernels is rather subdued at present, traders are speculating about the development prices will take in the next few weeks. High freight charges still pose an enormous challenge. Some exporters in China have started to adapt their prices, but buyers in Europe may take advantage of the current market situation.

Summer slump

Some exporters have come to terms with the high freight charges and have adapted their prices accordingly. A 20' FCL container currently costs more than USD 6,000 to ship from China to Hamburg. The export prices for A grade shine skin and GWS kernels have remained firm for the time being at USD 3.79/kg and USD 3.78/kg CFR Hamburg respectively. 

Farmgate prices for shine skine kernels have, however, risen nominally from CNY 16.30/kg to CNY 16.40/kg in China within one week. Demand is, nevertheless, subdued as normally is the case in summer w
