Peanuts: export demand slumps

NEW DELHI. Recent price increases have led to a massive decline in demand for Indian peanuts in Southeast Asia. This is compounded by the poor quality of this year's crop and the strict requirements imposed by APEDA.

Exports have fallen sharply

Peanut prices have climbed again by USD 10/mt compared to last week, but Indian traders say this has turned out to be more of a curse than a blessing. Previously, exports to Southeast Asian countries had declined due to Indonesia's import ban, but had nevertheless continued steadily. However, the recent price increase has now led to up to 80% of orders being cancelled, and demand from these buyer countries has virtually disappeared, as reported by one affected market player.
