Grains and oilseeds: vicious attacks disrupt shipments

BRUSSELS. Wheat is under pressure. Russia’s persistent attacks are disrupting corn shipments in Ukraine. Speculations abound as to if China will succeed in buying enough US soybeans. Global rapeseed production has the potential to rise.

Wheat under pressure

Continuous pressure from Russia and expectations of good crops in the Southern Hemisphere have rendered price rises impossible for wheat. Australia is anticipating a crop size of 36 million mt and Argentina of 24 million mt. While Australia competes with Russia for customers, Argentina and France especially compete for buyers in Morrocco. Recent estimates issued by the International Grains Council (IGC) have added further pressure as the global 2025/2026 production estimate for wheat has been lifted by 3 million mt to 830 million mt.
