SOFIA/MOSCOW. Market players are optimistic about the 2021 sunflower seed crop, but are still hesitant to bid. Meanwhile, sunflower seed shipments from Russia have declined by 50% since the beginning of this season.

Weather situation makes for a positive mood

Snow and cool temperatures this spring caused repeated delays in sunflower seed sowing. As a result, a later start to the harvest is to be expected. Thanks to the current favourable weather conditions, however, the plants have been able to develop well so far and the prospects for the coming crop are thoroughly positive. Nevertheless, it should be noted that even a few hot and dry weeks in summer can significantly reduce the yield.
