SANTIAGO. The result of the Chilean prune production should be comparable to that of last year and thus not a bad result. The proportion of larger fruits is relatively high this year.

Around 60,000 mt of Chilean prunes

Chile's plum harvest is in full swing and with it the prune production. The experts at Catz expect a similar result to last year, which would be around 60,000 mt of prunes. The trees bore relatively many large fruits this year, which is why smaller varieties can probably only be offered at only slightly lower prices due to reduced availability.

On the European spot market, prices are currently still relatively stable, with some slight downward corrections. However, it remains to be seen how prices will develop. Argentina has again recorded a crop decline this year and due to the smaller crops in France and the USA last year, prices are likely to show some stability for the time being. Unpitted prunes, 30/40 from Chile are traded on the European spot market at prices of EUR 4.70/kg FCA Spain, while offers for pitted prunes, 40/60 are at a level of EUR 4.75/kg FCA.
