DALIAN. The prices for Chinese pumpkin seeds continue to climb and are rapidly approaching last year's level.

Price increase cannot be stopped
Since the season low at the end of March, at which time both GWS and Shine Skin were at 1,820 USD/mt CFR Hamburg, the prices have been rising steadily. Whereby Shine Skin Grade A pumpkin seeds did not rise quite as rapidly. Here the offers currently range between 2.18-2.26 USD/kg. GWS seeds, Grade A are being offered for significantly higher prices at 2.41-2.63 USD/kg. If they continue to rise at this pace, prices will have reached last year's level again in a few weeks.

Uncertainty governs the market

Market players report shrinking stocks, particularly for high quality pumpkin seeds. In the hope of achieving even better prices, some traders are holding on to their supplies. Nobody dares to make long-term estimates. In addition to reports that acreage has shrunk appreciably compared to last year, the weather will still play an important role in the next few weeks and months. For this reason, traders are also not expecting a considerable price drop in the new season for now.
