PEKING. The lack of buying interest is still noticeable in the Chinese pumpkin seed market, but for the time being the prices seem to have stabilized.

Depending on the supplier, however, export offers may vary by at least a hundred dollars per tonne.

While exporters are anxious to part with their old stocks, buyers tend to focus on the new crop. Those who are not covered by current long-term contracts buy only the most necessary goods. Meanwhile, exporters are still holding back with offers for the new crop.

Current trends in the organic market

Market players currently reckon that the cultivation area for Shine Skins will be about 20-30% larger this season, including some fields with organic pumpkin seeds as in Heilongjiang. This season, the sale of organic pumpkin seeds has been difficult because the Chinese organic goods do not meet the EU standards. Instead, traders are turning to customers from the USA, among others, with their offers. Organic pumpkin seeds, Shine Skin, Grade A are currently offered for USD 3.35 per kg CIF Hamburg, while Grade AA kernels are offered for USD 3.60 per kg CIF Hamburg.
