PEKING. Market players who are looking for new pumpkin seed suppliers in China are currently confronted with an above-average number of advance payment invoices.

New customers have to pay in advance

Reports state that it is rather quiet in the Chinese pumpkin seed market, spot purchases are hardly made, according to traders. Calls from long-term contracts are being processed primarily. Nevertheless, new exporters' customers are currently finding it difficult to conclude transactions, as the traders often insist on advance payment. There are various reasons for this: On one hand, Chinese suppliers fear that their containers might not be accepted due to logistical problems in the destination ports. On the other hand, they do not want to take any risk if the buyer has to file for insolvency due to the current situation and is no longer solvent.

Shine skin prices differ

The prices are largely stable and for GWS seeds also comparatively uniform. However, the offers shine skins can vary by around USD 100-200 per metric tonne depending on the supplier. The sowing for the pumpkin seed crop 2020 will start shortly. Based on the current price level an expansion of the acreage cannot be excluded.
