DALIAN. The upwards trend still continues on the Chinese pumpkin seed market. To avoid frightening away potential buyers any further, some suppliers are willing to sell below the market price.

Lone wolves lower the prices
For GWS, the price increase in the last few weeks has hit particularly hard. As the season progresses, it is becoming increasingly important to pay attention to quality. For this reason, some suppliers are not offering any more pumpkin seeds grown without shell to avoid the risks associated with elevated pesticide values. To still be able to compete in the market, they are offering their Shine Skin seeds about 140 USD/mt below market price.

Many Chinese farmers are resorting to subsidised alternative products this year, including cotton. For this reason, market players currently assume that the crop will be approx. 40% smaller than last year. They also suspect that further price increases by a total of 200-300 USD/mt are possible, and under the current circumstances, pumpkin seeds, Grade AA could even break the 3,000-USD/mt mark.
