DALIAN. Although demand is low with buyers poised to wait for the new crop, the prices for pumpkin seeds remain stubbornly high in China. Issue is that speculators are still trying their very best to put buyers off.

Far cry from reality

The current market prices for pumpkin seeds have little to do with supply and demand in China at present. Although demand is low, the raw material prices for shine skin kernels have remained firm at RMB 19.60/kg for over a month now. Problem is that small dealer and speculators are sold out, whereas all remaining volumes are in the hands of large stakeholders. They have full control over prices.
