DALIAN. The soaring prices for shine skin kernels are putting buyers off. Most have limited their purchases to the volumes required for meeting existing contracts. Speculators are, however, confident.

High prices persist

The prices for raw shine skins have risen sharply in recent weeks and currently range at RMB 16.9-19.8/kg. Traders in China, however, report that buyers are having trouble accepting such high prices. Suppliers are careful only to buy the raw kernels they need to meet existing contracts. Speculators are, by contrast, confident that they will be able to continue to drive up the market in the next few months.

Exporters, however, disagree, especially since overseas demand has cooled in the past weeks. Prices have, therefore, declined slightly
