Pumpkin seeds: speculators drive up prices

DALIAN. In the hope of later profits, speculators and large factories are currently stocking up on pumpkin seeds. This is causing commodity prices to rise and is also having an impact on export prices.

Significantly smaller crop

Although most processing factories are hardly buying any goods at the moment, commodity prices on the Chinese pumpkin seed market have continued to rise. This is mainly due to the expected significantly lower crop this year, which is expected to be 40-50% smaller than in 2024; this is partly due to the adverse weather conditions and partly to the fact that growers often prefer to grow staple crops such as wheat or corn, as these receive more government subsidies.
