Quinoa: Germany increases imports by 6%

... a total of 6,700 metric tonnes of quinoa (10085000 Quinoa "Chenopodium quinoa") between June 2019 and May 2020 . With 3,281 metric tonnes, almost half of it came from Bolivia, currently the second largest growing country, another 1,983 metric tonnes were imported from the top growing country Peru.

According to data from the European Commission, third countries exported a total of 28,000 metric tonnes of quinoa to the EU in 2019, an increase of 6.7% over last year. With more than 17,100 metric tonnes, Peru contributed almost two thirds of the import volume, while shipments from Bolivia amounted to 9,830 metric tonnes. Smaller quantities were also purchased from Ecuador and India.

Organic quinoa prices

Organic white quinoa from Peru is currently being offered at export prices of USD 2.67 per kg FOB Callao, while organic red quinoa is quoted at USD 2.50 per kg. Meanwhile, organic quinoa, tri-color is available at prices of USD 2.69 per kg FOB Callao.
