Raisins: Competitive market is a challenge

MANISA/TEHRAN. Production is in full swing in Turkey and last weekend’s high temperatures ranging above 45°C are benefitting drying. Financial transactions are, however, proving difficult for traders in Iran.

Exchange rate fluctuations decisive in Turkey

Although the new crop is already trading for TRY 10 per kg in the spot markets in Turkey, most grapes still need to be harvested. The sultana and raisin production should be completed by Mid-September. In addition, the TMO will only conduct purchases of prices drop below TRY 10 per kg. However, the current exchange rate fluctuations may prompt a decline in export prices. Market players reckon that the Turkish Lira may lose in value in September.
