TEHRAN. The raisin market has witnessed a considerable shift in prices in Iran over the last two weeks. Exchange rate fluctuations are, however, not the only problem.

Prices plummet

The market has witnessed a sharp decline in prices over the last two weeks. In fact, the prices for sundried raisins have even plummeted by EUR 0.42 per kg. The price declines for sultanas, golden and green raisins is more moderate at EUR 0.12-0.19 per kg. Problem is that the Iranian Rial has lost 4.2% in value against other currencies. The demand for sundried, golden and sultana raisins is, in addition, very much subdued in the export market. Contrary to this, constant export demand has prevented green raisins from trading even lower.
