TEHRAN. Raisin production prospects are highly encouraging in the Hamadan Province, which is Iran’s second most important producing region. Prices have, however, taken a surprising turn.

Production set to rise by 3.4%

According to the Agricultural Organisation if Hamadan Province, the region accounts for 31% of Iran’s raisin production. Average annual production ranges at 46,000 metric tonnes and exports at 36,600 metric tonnes. Grape production is estimated at 420,000 metric tonnes this year, up 3.4% on the 406,000 metric tonnes harvested last year. The rise in production is attributed to programmes underway to finance the scaffolding of vineyards, which increases yields and improves quality. Average yields range at 19 metric tonnes per hecta
