The imports of wheat continue.

India is still importing after a record production of wheat. Though the imports are going to decline compares to last year but still after a bumper crop this year.

India is expected to import about 4 million tonnes of wheat. And one of the major reason is that the prices in the other countries are cheaper and the price of imported wheat is still lower compared to domestic price.

South-Indian mills mainly imports as they can cut their cost and it’s cheaper as buying from north India and getting it delivered to their company’s increases their cost, hence imports from Ukraine are increasing.

Already 300’000 tons of wheat imports have been contracted with a Ukraine supplier.

Increase in government procurement to fill up their stock led a flat availability even after increase in production compared to last year.

Though imports from Ukraine have increased but imports from Australia may decline due to it’s higher cost.
