Sesame seeds: China needs to hold back

NEW DELHI. While an upsurge in demand is anticipated in the run up to Diwali, which is celebrated on 24 October, India may have trouble importing sesame seeds from Nigeria.

Businesses stock up

Last week's rains may have impacted the quality of the crop in some places in Madhya and Uttar Pradesh. As cleaning and hulling facilities only have limited supplies at their disposal they will have to stock up since demand is expected to rise in the run up to Diwali as of next week. This is presently supporting the domestic and export markets. While further prcie rises are anticipated in the next few weeks, there is not enough export demand to prompt a price surge.
