Sesame seeds: new crop reaches trade markets

NEW DELHI/DODOMA. In four to six weeks, the majority of the Indian summer crop will arrive on the markets, but the first positions are already available. Indian sesame farmers have slightly increased the acreage compared to last year.

Cultivated area slightly larger than year

The first sesame seed shipments from the new crop are already arriving in the Indian trading markets, while harvests are in full swing in the state of Tamil Nadu and in eastern Andhra Pradesh. In Telangana, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal, the new crop is expected to be available on the markets from mid to late May. According to the latest data from the Gujarat Directorate of Agriculture, a total of 119,569 hectares of sesame seeds had been sown in the Indian state by the beginning of this week, compared to 113,435 h
