NEW DELHI. The results of the current sesame tender have been published, and Indian exporters proved to be the big winners.

Altogether, Korea purchased 4,800 mt of Indian sesame seeds, of which 2,100 mt in premium quality and 2,700 mt in standard quality. Other suppliers come from Africa, China and Pakistan.

Prices are dropping

The tender prices were considerably below the market prices. As a result, there was an overall fall in prices. Even although there is hardly any good-quality available on the market and the tender deliveries will probably be supplied with stocks from the 2016 crop.

After the very small summer crop of last year (14,000-15,000 mt), estimates for the 2017 production are looking much better – even if the average value of 50,000 mt will probably not quite be reached.
