NEW DELHI. The general demand situation may be stable, but some shifts, especially in Europe, are enfolding a considerable impact.

Lower demand in Germany

Europe is, like China, orienting itself more towards Africa this season and some countries have greatly reduced their imports. In the first three months of this year, Germany alone has reduced its imports by a good 1,500 mt compared to the same period last year.

Surprising price development

The farmers in India have started harvesting the summer crop and shipping should begin in a few days. Contrary to the traders' expectations, the prices have dropped further this week. At the same time, suppliers are reporting that several containers are already booked and should be shipped off as soon as the new crop is available on the market. Market players estimate that the summer crop will amount to 30,000 mt. The proportion of white sesame seeds should, however, barely reach 13,000-15,000 mt.

For the further price trend, continued development of the purchasing behaviour of foreign and domestic buyers is decisive.
