NEW DELHI. Sesame seed imports to Germany have been declining recently. Meanwhile, the resumption of palm oil exports from Indonesia put pressure on prices in the Indian sesame seed market.

Prices under pressure

The resumption of palm oil exports from Indonesia has put pressure on sesame seed prices in the Indian market. Here, sesame seeds are largely processed into vegetable oil and used in the food industry, but the cheaper palm oil has a decisive price advantage here.

As a result, contrary to expectations, sesame seed prices have fallen slightly again this week and market players are bracing themselves for a possible price plateau. Hulled sesame seeds, 99.98% purity are currently at a level of USD 1,885/mt FOB India.
