Sesame seeds: the rumour mill is bubbling

NEW DELHI. The prospect of a smaller crop in India and rumours about liquidity problems of the South Korean government are keeping the sesame seed market on its toes. For the time being, however, prices continue to move downwards.

No new tender until 2024?

Sesame seed prices are maintaining the downward trend of the past weeks. Increasing availability on the international market, currently especially from Brazil, is putting pressure on prices. According to market players, sesame seed arrivals of 25,000-30,000 mt from overseas are expected in the Indian market in the next three to four weeks. This is already noticeable in the offers, traders are adjusting their prices, while demand from the domestic and overseas market, however, is limited.
