Sesame seeds: sowing continues to progress slowly

NEW DELHI. In India, sowing for the Kharif crop continues to progress slowly. Prices have risen on the trade markets. Export quotations, however, remain stable.

Firmer prices on the domestic market

According to data from the Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare of the Indian Ministry of Agriculture, by 12 June 2026 only 5,000 ha had been sown nationwide for the Kharif crop, compared with 11,000 ha during the same period last year. Meanwhile, farmers in Gujarat have sown around 483 ha in the first three weeks, compared with 463 ha at this time last year according to official data; this was reported by the state’s Directorate of Agriculture in its latest report.
