NEW DELHI/ISLAMABAD. Arrivals of the summer crop are declining on the Indian sesame seed market. Sowing for the autumn crop remains well below last year’s levels. In other countries, too, growers are giving preference to other crops.

India’s acreage remains well below last year’s levels

Market players report a supply shortage in the Indian sesame seed market. Although the 2026 summer crop is expected to be slightly higher than last year’s figure of 431,000 mt, at 451,000 mt according to data from the Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare of the Indian Ministry of Agriculture, deliveries from growing regions are declining noticeably in some cases. Last week, no summer sesame seed shipments were recorded at all in West Bengal, and Telangana received only 700 to 800 bags
