Sour cherries: Rising prices for Hungarian canned fruits

BUDAPEST. Hungarian producers of fruit preserves report problems with this year's sour cherry crop. Not all of the fruits are suitable for processing.

Smaller crop in 2019

Hungarian producers have almost completed their sour cherry harvest. Recently it was reported that the unfavourable weather conditions in spring 2019 have noticeably damaged the sour cherry production. Frost, rain and high temperature fluctuations are expected to have reduced the yield by 30-50%, says Béla Mártonffy, Chairman of the National Horticultural and Supply Department of the National Chamber of Agriculture.
