MANISA. This season's production will probably be smaller than the 310,000 mt produced in 2016. Rains over the last few weeks are reckoned to have damaged 5-10% of the crop.

New crop offers starting at 1,300 USD/mt

Initial unofficial estimates range between 270,000-280,000 mt. Official figures will be be announced as late as July. Turkish dried fruit exporters are hardly receiving any requests for prompt deliveries. Contract negotiations for the new crop are, however, in full swing. Conventional new crop sultanas, Type 9, STD are being offered from 1,300 USD/mt FOB Izmir. Organic sultanas are also slightly above the current level at 1,950 USD/mt FOB Izmir.

Organic sultanas at liquidation prices

The current crop ist maintaining the same level as the past few weeks. There are, however, quite a few bargains for organic sultanas. The market price is currently at 1,850-2,000 USD/mt FOB Izmir. A few containers are being offered at special prices starting at 1,515 USD/mt CIF Hamburg. Suppliers who still have larger quantities in stock want to sell as quickly as possible to save the costs for long-term storage in a cold storage house during the summer months.
