MANISA. The season is coming to an end and supplies are running low for the exporters in Turkey. To meet ongoing contracts, traders are now forced to buy more expensive sultanas from the Tariş Sultana Raisins Union.

Prices vary around 3.50-4.10 TRY/kg and the export prices have also risen.

False pride

The prices in Turkey have most likely passed the low point for this season. With prices varying on a level 1,250-1,350 USD/mt FOB Izmir for several weeks, offers are now expected to rise to 1,300-1,450 USD/mt. in the next month or so.

Currently, the prices for sultanas, Grade A, Type 9, STD are moving in a range of 1,500 USD/mt FOB Izmir. Since Iranian sultanas are being offered at slightly higher prices Turkish traders intend to follow suit to avoid the impression that their sultanas are worth less. The long-term price level for 2017/18 is estimated at 1,400-1,500 USD/mt FOB.
