MANISA. Turkish traders are not concerned for the moment about possible price increases but sultana growers are growing restless.

This anxiety is not restricted to sultanas but has touched the entire market for dried fruit. Producers are hoping for spring frost as a justification to raise their prices. Since the beginning of the season 130,000 mt of sultanas have been exported and many traders have stocked up due to favourable prices – their deliveries are secured. Even a price hitch from 3,80-4,30 TRY/kg did nothing to change that.

Export prices will maintain their levels this week and market participants are not expecting any noteworthy fluctuations currently. According to their opinion not even the Ramadan demand should have an appreciable influence on price developments – always assuming the weather stays in line with expectations. The typical winter with frost and snow raises hopes of a mild spring, which would reduce the risk of frost. Under ideal conditions traders expect another production of 250.000-300.000 mt of sultanas.
