MANISA/SACRAMENTO. Compared to the previous year, exports of sultanas from Turkey are gradually declining, but measured by the much smaller production volume than in the 2017/18 season, they are still at a good level of just under 181,000 mt.

Californian dried fruit exporters cannot claim this. Large import countries such as China and Germany halved their imports in the first six months of the 2018/19 season. According to the German Federal Statistical Office, Germany imported just 885 mt of sultanas (customs tariff number 08062030 sultanas) from the USA between October 2018 and February 2019, 68% less than in the previous year. However, imports from Turkey also fell by 21% to 14,753 mt during this period. On the other hand, significantly more dried grapes were imported from South Africa, Chile, China and Iran.
