MANISA. Turkish dried fruit traders consider the season to be finished, ongoing contracts are being fulfilled on the side, and they are concentrating on the new crop.

Exuberant offers
The fact that some suppliers are offering contracts for organic sultanas from the 2016 crop up until August 2018 is either an indication for a high risk appetite or boundless optimism. However, these offers are also not the norm. Still, the good production outlooks for the 2017/18 season cannot be ignored. Although the vines are carrying fewer grapes, they will probably grow bigger. If the crop is able to fulfil expectations, the prices should easily be able to maintain the current level.

Quality assurance
Hardly any light-coloured Type 10 sultanas can be found any more on the Turkish dried fruit market. If the sultanas are not properly stored, they darken in colour over the months. For many farmers who do not have suitable storage facilities, this is a good reason to hurry with selling the sultanas to the traders before the quality drops any further.
