MANISA/TEHERAN. The rainfall forecast for this week could affect the drying process of the sultanas. Meanwhile, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan travelled to the main growing region last weekend to announce prices for the new crop.

Rain could affect drying

According to Turkish weather services, the extremely high temperatures of the past week are now to be followed by a few days of rain showers. However, producers have just started the drying process, which could be negatively affected by the rainfall. The production estimates for this year's crop should be announced soon, but according to market players, a similar result as last year of about 300,000 mt of sultanas is expected. Some even mention results of 320,000 mt.
