Storms have wreaked havoc

Storms have wreaked havoc in some regions. Some field, in which the grapes are drying, have been flooded and one farmer has been killed. The prices have, however, remained unaffected. The prices for the lighter type 10 sultanas have even dropped considerably since last week. It should, however, be noted that prices here particularly depend on the weather since longer drying periods usually result in a darker colour. It is very possible that prices will rise again, especially since temperatures at night are extremely low, which is why traders are reckoning with longer drying periods.

Possible drop in production

Some market players expect a smaller crop this year and are only offering contracts till February. This is because the market has witnessed very good harvests over the last two years, which is why some market players issue concerns that production is set to drop in 2018.
