Sultanas: traders wish to accelerate sales

MANISA. Subdued demand and international competition is putting the exporters in Turkey in a difficult position. Meanwhile, the farmers are anything but amused by the current market situation. Tariş and the TMO have changed their pruchasing tactics.

Farmers still hold large volumes

The exports from Turkey have considerably declined as only as little as 5,087 metric tonnes were shipped overseas. One year ago, shipments ranged at 6,350 metric tonnes. Total exports have declined by 3% to 66,414 metirc tonnes since the start of the season. Only 140,000 metric tonnes of raisins and sultanas have so far been registered in the spot markets in Turkey, which includes the 50,000 metric tonnes pruchased by Tariş and the TMO.
