Sultanas: vines suffer from heatwave

MANISA. Temperatures still range above 40C (104F) in Turkey. There is no sign of improvement in the next few days. A starting date for the harvest has, nevertheless, been set meaning that the production of sultanas and raisins will certainly go ahead soon.

Cooler weather is not in sight

Daytime temperatures range as high as 43C (109.4F) and at 30C (86 F) at night. Wildfires have destroyed more than 95,000 ha of forests and there is no relief in sight. Hot and dry weather has been forecast for this week. Market players in Turkey report that studies on the crop have now been completed and that estimates will be issued soon.
