Sunflower seeds: compensating for shortfalls

SOFIA/KYIV. With the arrival of the new sunflower seed crop trading is starting to revive again in Bulgaria. Demand is, however, still very much subdued and suppliers have cut prices. Ukraine has become a major player for sunflower seeds.

Difficult hulling season

Yields are still disappointingly low as many small kernels are being reported, which renders hulling difficult. Although this may certainly drive up market prices, much also depends on demand. The prices for bakery kernels have presently declined to EUR 1.22-1.28/kg DDP Germany.
