Sunflower seeds: EU Commission expects 18% larger crop

SOFIA/KYIV. The EU Commission has published its first forecast for the 2023 sunflower seed production and the outlook is still optimistic. In Ukraine, too, the acreage is to be expanded again this year.

Optimistic cultivation forecast

For the EU sunflower seed production in 2023, the outlook of many experts is currently optimistic. The European Commission has now also announced its first estimate for 2023/2024 production. Under normal circumstances, a result of 10.89 million mt is to be expected, which would correspond to an increase of almost 18% compared to 2022. Eurostat indicates drastic production increases of 42% to 3.27 million mt and 61% to 1.85 million mt for Romania and Hungary, which are two of the main EU producing countries.
