Sunflower seeds: global crop significantly lower

SOFIA/KYIV. Disappointing yields and reduced availability of raw kernels are impacting the international sunflower seed market. Prices continue to rise. The current WASDE report offers only a few corrections.

USDA estimates partly more optimistic

Last Friday, the US Department of Agriculture published its latest World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates Report. Compared to the October report, only a few corrections were made to the estimates for global sunflower seed crops. Expectations for the EU harvest were reduced slightly, while estimates for Turkish sunflower seed production were cut by more than 11%.

Overall, the USDA now estimates global sunflower seed production in 2024/2025 at just 50.444 million mt, which would correspond to a 10% decline compared
