SOFIA/KYIV. Farmers in Bulgaria are protesting against the high volumes of sunflower seeds imported from Ukraine, which are said to exceed 1 million mt. These imports have certainly put the market under pressure.

Downturn

Sunflower seed prices have declined in Bulgaria and mainly depend on the imports from Ukraine, which the local newspaper Trud estimates at 1.3 million mt and nearly on par with the country's production of 1.5-1.6 million mt. Although the farmers in Bulgaria are protesting against these high imports, there is little hope that the situation will improve for them. Bakery kernels are trading lower than last week.
