Sunflower seeds: no risk of excessive imports from Ukraine

SOFIA/KYIV. Sunflower seed production has fallen short of expectations in Ukraine and Bulgaria intends to revise the current import restrictions.

Measures to be revised

The current import restrictions in place in Bulgaria for unhulled sunflower seeds from Ukraine will apply until 30 November at least. Political parties will negotiate further measures in December. As the crop was smaller than expected processors are far from happy with the current situation. UkrAgroConsult, however, reports that even if restrictions were to be lifted there is little risk of a supply glut from Ukraine as Bulgaria will rather rely on carry-in stocks and shipments from Romania to meet demand.
