Sunflower seeds: Ukraine has harvested 7 million mt so far

SOFIA/KYIV. Moisture is becoming a problem on Ukrainian sunflower fields, experts say. Meanwhile, Russia is maintaining high export fees for sunflower seeds this season.

Russia sticks to 50% export duty

In Ukraine, the sunflower seed harvest is still in full swing. However, the Ukrainian Ministry of Agrarian Policy announced that the high moisture content caused problems in the sunflower fields. There is talk of large-scale fungal infestation. What impact this will ultimately have on yields and quality remains to be seen. By the end of last week, 3.2 million ha had been harvested, and with an average yield of 2.19 mt/ha, production so far comes to 7 million mt.
